Data on Rising Car Prices and Loan Rates

Why haven’t used car prices taken a nosedive, you ask? Well, buckle up, ’cause we’re diving into the nitty-gritty of this auto-mystery.

Here’s the deal: Used cars still have that thrifty allure compared to their shiny new siblings. Feast your eyes on this – the percentage of all NEW vehicles sold for UNDER $25,000 has shrunk from 24% in March 2018 to a measly 4% in March 2023. Talk about a jaw-dropping record! 🤯

With new car prices soaring, $1,000 monthly payments are sticking around like a bad smell. In Q1 2023, a whopping 16.8% of consumers financing new vehicles said “yes” to $1,000+ monthly payments – an all-time high. Is this a financial train wreck waiting to happen or just a big ol’ nothing-burger?

Meanwhile, used car inventories keep shrinking like your favorite jeans. We’re down to a mere ~2M units chilling on dealer lots nationwide – that’s an all-time low, folks. But hey, new car inventory just hit its HIGHEST level in 2 years. Yay?

Brands rolling in availability include Ram (the big cheese), Buick, Jeep, Chrysler, and Jaguar. The catch? It’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Inventory levels are playing favorites, with non-luxury and luxury imports lagging, like Toyota, Kia, Lexus, and Honda.

So, there you have it! The auto world is a rollercoaster of highs, lows, and head-scratchers, but we’ll keep you in the loop with our signature Street Drift humor and Shaan Puri’s writing finesse. Vroom vroom! 🏎️💨

NYPD’s Batman-Inspired Tech: The Future of Policing or RoboCop Disaster?

Fighting Toy

NYC peeps! The NYPD just went all Batman on us, shutting down Times Square to flex their fancy new crime-fighting toys, including a Batracker-like car-tracking device to cut down on high-speed chases. Gotham, who? 🦇🚔

The NYPD is dropping a cool $20,000 on a temporary subscription with StarChase, the genius minds behind the GPS tracker. This bad boy can be fired from a modified AR-15 or the front of a cop car, sticking to the perp’s ride like a champ. As Mayor Eric Adams put it, they’re all about reducing high-speed chases in the city.

StarChase ain’t new to the game, though. Their GPS tech’s been used over 10,000 times, recovering a whopping $150 million in assets. They say it’s a game-changer for DUI checkpoints and sneaky covert ops.

But wait, there’s more! The NYPD also showcased a four-legged Boston Dynamics robot and a wheeled info-gathering robot. Not everyone’s stoked, though. Albert Fox Kahn from the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project called it “bad science fiction turned into terrible policing.” Ouch.

Legal Aid Society ain’t too pleased either, accusing NYC’s mayor and police of snubbing transparency principles by rolling out new tech without giving folks a chance to voice their concerns.

So, is it a big win for Gotham… I mean, NYC, or a RoboCop nightmare? Stay tuned as we ride this Street Drift wave in true Shaan Puri style! 🏄‍♂️🤖
